Are Drac in a Box scammers?

I've being thinking about buying a net skirt recently, after some Googling I found myself on Drac in a Box again. I have viewed this site before and I was put off by the very high VAT, I once tried ordering a few items from them but the final total was extremely high. Plus I found their shipping prices and the waiting time very unappealing, they charge you upon order but this doesn't necessarily mean the product is ready. However while I researching the company I discovered mass amounts of negative information.

Majority of the reviews are negative or positive, it's very hit and miss. Here is a list of things I've read about this company:
  • Customers didn't receive the order even though they paid for it, including shipping.
  • Products arriving weeks late.
  • Slow responses, unless you threaten them with legal action.
  • General bad customer service.
  • Bad quality products.
  • Product described wrongly.
  • Wrong size product sent.
  • Don't refund the customer, despite the products been returned to them.
  • The company tries to bribe the customer with a gift voucher or free product upon complaint.

Also, they claim their products are made to order but to be frank I've seen some of their products on other websites. For a cheaper price and ready to be shipped. Don't assume everything on their website is personally made by them because it's not.

Reviews:
  • Dooyoo.
  • Review centre.
  • Kaboodle.
  • You can also read the comments below for negative reviews and feel free to share your experience here.
I am bemused that I almost checked out an order once. I wouldn't recommend this company and I suggest you give it a miss, please pass this information on.

Update!
I have recently being contacted by the new owner of Drac in a Box in the comment section of this post..

"Nicole Adams.
I have just taken over as the new owner of Drac-in-a-Box two weeks ago. I am very aware that the company used to have a bit of a bad reputation for not getting orders to costumers on time. I promise you all now, as the new owner, all orders will be shipped to costumers as soon as the order is received (unless the item is made to order then it will be shipped as soon as it is made). I am also working on dropping the prices as I know that currently the prices are far to high for the average goth.

I would be so, so grateful if you could remove this post about Drac-in-a-Box from your blog because it is hugely damaging the image of my new business. I'm sure you would agree that any new business owner deserves a chance to prove themselves.

Love and Darkness
Nicole"

My response:
"Thank you for contacting me with this new information, however I won't be removing this post. I stand by the reviews and my own opinion. It shouldn't be taken down and brushed under the carpet because of a new owner, this is the consequence of taking over a company that has treated its customers badly.

I understand that you may resent the reputation as the new owner but it is a reputation the company itself deserves, I'm glad you're making some changes though. I appreciate you asking kindly so I'll be rewriting the post to make it better quality and include that you're the new owner."

I stand by my response and everything I originally wrote, I haven't being contacted since.

I am very surprised at this, I have been shopping from DIAB for years and never had any trouble (apart from the obscene prices). Personally I won't be avoiding shopping on their site as I have nothing negative to say about them, but it's quite shocking that other people have had this experience.

Hmmm...I'm glad I read this review. I've considered ordering clothes there many times (but didn't do so because of the prices) and would certainly have done so in the future. Now I'm not going to take the risk, especially since it would have to be shipped abroad.

@ Corin, I'm glad I warned you because it seems to be hit and miss. Ordering abroad would only give them more excuses :(

Don't go near them with a barge pole....I ordered a dress, it never arrived and 3 months later am still waiting for a refund. Hollow promises and now 'Dorian' has apparently left the company....'Carmilla' seems no better in issuing a refund either and the only time they bother answering e-mails if they are told they will be reported. I have now passed their details on to Action Fraud who are looking into it.....

@ Trace64, thanks for passing the information on! I'm sorry you've lost your money but at least this post might stop people making the same mistake, lets hope Action Fraud actually do something.

I am interested in whether anyone has had trouble since then and whether there is a difference between overseas and America. I live overseas, and might one day buy something, if things really are better.

New owners or not, I'm having a rather bad time with the site. I bought a dress from them 2 months ago. The delivery was stated at 4-6 weeks. I inquired about my order status about 5 weeks in and was told there'd be a delay and a free gift would be included - which is the exact same song and dance I've seen other people complain about in their reviews of the site. When I asked for an approximate delivery date, I received no reply. Same deal with the subsequent 2 emails, sent about a week apart. I've just sent out my fourth and final email - if I don't receive an answer, I'm filing a complaint with IC3, Better Business Bureau, etc. All in all, I'd say save yourself and trouble and stay far, far away.

UPDATE: Dracinabox followed through on sending the order and included some free gifts, as well as apologized profusely for the delay. I was told the lapse in communication happened because the site owners were away on vacation.

Drac-In-A-Box has assisted me every step of the way when I had a question about my order or profile. NO company compares to the experience I have had with them! They replied in very reasonable time until most places that either don't care or reply weeks later. I am VERY satisfied with the professionalism and DEAD-ication that Drac-In-A-Box has given me! I am truly happy to do business with them and will share with friends! I recently placed an order with them. Nicole ( new owner) has replied to every email I have sent and you can't get that kind of customer service from many businesses! On note about late arrivals on orders.. That was partially the responsibility of previous owners, but also understand that transport and shipping has to cross Customs in your country. I am having a lengthy wait from an order I did business with in China due to Customs into the U.S. Unfortunately there are bad business practices out there and horrible managers but Nicole is NOT one of those people.

You had a great experience? So what? That doesn't change the fact that this company has out right spammed plenty more, with evidence. And FYI online stores should reply to every email within reasonable time, that's not amazing customer service that's normal. The amount of time waiting also isn't an excuse for long awaited orders, they're a UK based company and many UK customers have suffered.

I wasn't sure whether to publish your comment because I'm not entirely convinced you're real. But if you did genuinely have such a good experience why not write a review with evidence to prove it? Just like plenty of other reviewers have proved their BAD experience.

Is Nicole one of them? I don't know, it's up to her to prove it. She's doesn't seem to be doing a great job so far.

I was surprised by this. I ordered from them in 2011 and didn't have any trouble. My only complaint is that the prices were high and shipping took about 2 months. I asked about getting a dress custom to my fit and they said it'd be £40 more. Seriously? I am sticking to places like Moon Maiden. Now that's a legit and great goth site where clothes are actually made custom to your fit for an affordable price.
