Are you born Goth?
No. Goths aren't born loving the music genre and cooing over a velvet corset. Although some Goths believe they're born Goth because for them it's an attitude and an outlook on life.
Can you wear colour?
Yup, there's no rule that you have to wear black. It just so happens that majority of Goths prefer to wear mostly black.
Sooo is it all about death and shit?
No although we do a tendency to love the darker side of life.
Why is black the preferred colour?
Origins and inspiration such as Victorian Mourning has influenced our colour choice, plus black has a lot of symbolism that relates to our subculture. Personally I would love to wear more colour but my Hyperhidrosis prevents that, plus many gothic clothes that I admire don't feature in the colours I like.
How do you know if you're Goth?
You'll know you're Goth if you like the music, fashion and subculture in general. However you have to consider yourself Goth, there's plenty of The Cure fans out there who aren't Goths.
Can I do [insert hobby here] and still be Goth?
Yes, there's no activity that prevents you from being Goth.
Why are Goths so damn grumpy?
Some Goths are grumpy because it's a part of their personality, others may come across as grumpy because they've had a bad day or something is annoying them.
Why are there so many fat goth chicks?
Our subculture isn't based on weight and there's no pressures to be a certain weight, in fact this subculture really doesn't care. They're over weight and Goth so what? If there was slight tendency for over weight people to be attracted to the Goth subculture I would say it's because we're usually more open minded.
Why do Goths always have black or wacky coloured hair?
Because they want their hair that colour and this subculture gives them to freedom to do that, not all Goths have coloured hair though. Mines completely natural because I prefer it that way, others can't dye it because of their job.

When I've being asked I've tried to answer politely but give them a funny look when they walk away.
LOLOLOLOLOL. Gawd some people are idiots! ;) I know, I know.... that's a little harsh but as I get older I just get more and more appalled at silly people and their questions. But... there are no stupid questions, right? ;)

For mne, Goth has alot to do with style. These days men's clothing, houses, women's clothing, everything has been made plain and unstylish. It's Tee shirts and blue jeans. Goths wear styles and victorian flair. Most people think this is absurd. Too bad things have changed. I'm glad that we survive as a subculture even though ti can be very difficult.
